Marland Notes

Customer Letter

Dear Customer:

This is a particularly exciting year for Marland.  Not only have we produced a record number of very fast molds helping our customers reduce their cost per part, but our R&D Program has come up with significant cooling improvements which promise to reduce cycle times and per part cost even further in the New Year.

We have focused on techniques for improving the cooling in our mold designs.  We have filed application for a patent to cover our findings.  Employing a pilot tool with known performance characteristics to establish a base line for the cycle time of our current mold design, we explored various methods of improving the cooling of the cavity and the inner core.

We experimented with changes in the water passages and came upon a design that increased the productivity of the pilot tool by 23.9%.  Based on our prior experience in scaling cycle time up from a pilot tool to a single face production tool, this translates into a 17.1% increase in productivity for the production tool.

We welcome the opportunity to apply our new designs to your products.  To be sure, at this stage we can not be certain of the results until we have tested your part design in a pilot tool.  After that, however, we would be prepared to guarantee the cycle time of any production tools we make employing the new technology.

This new technology can be used to modify or replace the cavities and inner cores of existing molds to significantly improve cycle time.  This can not be accomplished with all molds, but it would be worthwhile to contact our staff and allow us to evaluate whether we can be of help.

Another benefit of the new cooling design is to improve the processing window where that may currently be a problem.  We look forward to working with you to enhance your profitability through the application of our new technology in the New Year.

Marland has had great success in reducing energy consumption the details of which are described on our website, www.marlandmold.com.  Cumulative energy savings are in excess of 500,000 kWh/annum which helps to decrease greenhouse gases and environmental damage by the following amounts each year:

  • 680,000 pounds of Carbon Dioxide
  • 1,956 pounds of Sulfur Dioxide
  • 735 pounds of Nitrogen Oxide and
  • 3,569 mg of Mercury

We can’t think of a better way of wishing you and your family a Happy Holiday Season.

Sincerely yours,

John A. Barmack, President/CEO
